Lesson Script

Introduction

Welcome to twominenglish.com. Teaching you English through two-minute lessons. In this lesson we will learn how to ask someone “What’s your name?” in some different ways.

Hi! Great to see you dear viewer. ‘What’s your name?’ is one of the most asked questions we face in our lives. You meet strangers, they ask you your name, and you ask them back. It is a conversation starter at any place.

So let’s listen to some conversations which include asking your name and getting to know people. Hit the pause button whenever you want and repeat the dialog for better practice.

Let’s get started now!!

Just Ask Her!

Cindy: Hey Rob.

Rob: Hey Cindy. How are you?

Cindy: I’m fine, thank you. What’s up with you lately?

Rob: Nothing. I like this girl in my office but I just don’t have the guts to ask her name.

Cindy: Oh silly. It’s easy, just say “What’s your name?”

Rob: I think that’s a bit too direct. I don’t want to scare her.

Cindy: Well, waiting for someone to introduce you to each other would be a bit formal.

Rob: Yeah, that’s right.

Cindy: Why don’t you just say hi and then introduce yourself? That way she’ll know your name and she’ll probably tell you her name, too.

Rob: That’s a good idea!  Thanks Cindy.

Cindy: You’re welcome.

Indirectly Asking.

Harry: Hi, there.

Rosa: Hey.

Harry: I am Harry Daniels, and you are ...?

Rosa: Oh. I am Rosa Sprinkles.

Harry: You work in the Marketing department, right?

Rosa: Yes. And I guess you are in the Human Resources department...

Harry: Yeah. How did you know?

Rosa: I see you every day. I knew who you were but never knew your name.

Harry: Oh..okay...So now you know it and I also know yours.

Rosa: Yeah, and I hope I’ll see you around

I Forgot Your Name!

Kiara: Hi Rachel. How are you?

Rachel: I’m fine, but I’m sorry, I’ve forgotten your name.

Kiara:  I’m Kiara, remember? From the salon?

Rachel: Oh yes, Kiara! Hi, how are you?

Kiara: I’m great. I thought you would remember me.

Rachel: I did remember you but I just didn’t remember your name. I’m really bad at remembering people’s names.

Kiara: It’s okay. No problem. Maybe you won’t forget it now.

Rachel: I hope not!

Meeting Acquaintances.

Rachel: Hey, Finn. How are you?

Finn: Hey there. I’m good. You’re Brody’s sister, right?

Rachel: Yeah. I am.

Finn: I’m really sorry. I never got to ask Brody your name.

Rachel: Oh. My name is Rachel. It’s Ok since this is the first time we meet.

Finn: Yeah. I just saw you at school once when Brody told me you were his sister but he never mentioned your name.

Rachel: No problem, Finn. It was nice meeting you.

Finn: Same here. See you around.

Rachel: See ya!
